Solo traveller Ray Comley decided to take an Albania adventure tour with us, and joined our September 2016 Mountains to Sea Land Rover tour. He flew into Podgorica (Montenegro) from London Stansted with Ryanair – or at least intended to, but missed the flight due to a slight mishap in the early morning rush. Instead we picked him up a day later from the airport in Tirana and whisked him straight to the far north of Albania to join the rest of the group in the beautiful and remote village of Theth in the Accursed Mountains that border Montenegro and Kosovo. Over the next 12 days he experienced Lake Koman, Gjakova, Prizren, Tirana, Elbasan, Berat, Gjirokastra, Butrint and the Albanian Riviera – and some pretty incredible scenery too (it goes without saying). Not to mention four UNESCO cities and sites. Read Ray’s comments on his Albania adventure here.

“This holiday was was so different to any of my previous holidays. Gone were the comfy seats on a coach, gone was the flat smooth ride on a railtrack. In their place was a rough cross-country ride, bouncing around as we manoeuvered along dirt tracks formed by a path of rocks or earth or muddy puddles (and often all three), on each side trees and bushes and then a perfect view of this country’s scenery. Miles and miles of relatively untouched countryside, tall mountains and low valleys just waiting for the camera.

“We were not alone up there as we had to pass another vehicle now and then and had to also allow for cows, goats, sheep, dogs, chickens and chicks as they wandered about.

“If you want to get back to nature with excellent drivers who are fun, friendly and a good team with banter and chat, this is the Albania adventure for you.”
